About the Instructor

Jay Warmke is a leading pioneer in solar installation training. He is the author of several textbooks on renewable energy. These books include Assembling a Solar Generator, When the Biomass Hits the Wind Turbine, Understanding Photovoltaics, Designing & Installing Solar PV Systems, and more. His Small Wind Installer and Photovoltaic Class (solar installation instruction Level l and Level II) are accredited by the Electronic Technicians Association. Through his work with SOPEC he has encouraged dozens of commercial sites and small business owners to install solar. This is where his consulting help and knowledge of the REAP grant process came in handy. Additionally, his Solar Noon Tuesday News and podcast is sponsored by ASES. This attracts people around the world to learn and discuss the latest in solar news.

More Background

Jay also has served as Vice President to Green Energy Ohio, Chairperson to ETA’s Renewable Energy Committee board member. He is also a lifetime member of BICSI. He is an adjunct professor at Zane State College (Level I solar installation instruction) conducting-informative workshops on sustainable construction and renewable energy throughout the Midwest. For the past several years he has served as a consultant to numerous solar projects with companies like ARP, and Melink.

Early Career

In his earlier careers he was a general manager for Diamond Comic Book Distributors (Baltimore MD), and Executive Director of BICSI, building the organization from 500 members to six offices around the world, and 35,000 members. He left BICSI for a gap year (which turned into 3.5 years) in Europe, and began building, along with his wife Annie Warmke, the business plan for Blue Rock Station. Their goal was to create a premier sustainable living center in southeast Ohio. In 2004 they returned to Ohio where Annie had begun the construction of an Earthship in 1996. To date more that 60,000 visitors from around the world have taken tours, worked on projects or interned at BRS.
